Taking a stand against home care cuts!

ADAPT Action 1

SEIU Healthcare members joined our allies in Chicago ADAPT for a 100-person rally in downtown Chicago on June 29th to protest cuts to the state's home care program. Following the rally, we marched to the intersection of Clark and Randolph Streets and sat down in protest, stopping traffic for nearly 40 minutes. The action was aimed at raising awareness about the devastating impact cuts will have on the over 80,000 seniors and people with disabilities whose independence and safety depend on the care they receive in their homes.

Illinois lawmakers decide to take more time on budget

Signs In Crowd

Last week, our elected officials in Springfield decided that they will return to Springfield to continue working on the state budget, rather than quickly passing an irresponsible budget that would have devastated Illinois families. Even though they are taking more time to do the right thing, we know that the Illinois families aren't safe until they pass a fair budget that protects the programs we depend on. We need to keep the pressure on to make sure they find new revenue to stop cuts. Your legislators need to hear from you today.

The fight for a fair budget continues!

Signs from all divisions

The constant pressure we put on our elected officials this year has stopped Springfield from passing a budget that would have destroyed home care, child care and countless other human service programs in Illinois—but our fight isn’t over yet. Instead of doing the responsible thing and passing a fair plan for new revenue, legislators passed a budget that stopped state services from shutting down, but will still mean deep cuts.
