Illinois lawmakers decide to take more time on budget
SEIU Healthcare members continue the call for a fair plan that stops cuts
Last week, our elected officials in Springfield decided that they will return to Springfield to continue working on the state budget, rather than quickly passing an irresponsible budget that would have devastated Illinois families.
Their decision to take more time is a direct result of all the hard work SEIU Healthcare members and our allies have done over the past few months--making phone calls, sending emails, hosting events in our communities and traveling by the thousands to Springfield to make our call for fair budget heard. Lawmakers knew that they couldn’t come home with a budget that would mean deep cuts to home care, child care and other vital programs Illinois famiilies depend on.
Even though they are taking more time to do the right thing, we know that the Illinois families aren't safe until they pass a fair budget that protects the programs we depend on. We need to keep the pressure on to make sure they find new revenue to stop cuts.
