Illinois policymakers walk a day in our shoes

As part of our campaign to protect quality home care and child care for Illinois families from deep budget cuts, SEIU Healthcare members are hosting state legislators to work alongside of them to get a firsthand understanding of what home care and child care means for tens of thousands of families throughout the state.

So far, Representatives Chuck Jefferson, Brandon Phelps, Naomi Jakobsson and Bob Flider have walked a day in the shoes of SEIU Healthcare child care and home care providers.

Jefferson Walk A Day

“Deep budget cuts will destroy child care providers’ ability to continue providing care and have a dangerous trickle down effect on the care and development of the children of our state. We are counting on Representative Jefferson and his colleagues to stop dangerous cuts to child care and protect Illinois families.” - Sharon Harris, a Rockford home child care provider

Flider Walk A Day

“These budget cuts will force many seniors like me out of the homes and communities we love and into expensive facilities we don’t need. Our elected officials need to stand up for us now more than ever to stop dangerous cuts to home care and protect Illinois seniors for good.” - Kathy White, an Urbana senior who receives in-home assistance through the state’s home care program
