SEIU members making Justice for All a reality

SEIU 2008 Convention

Members from all divisions of SEIU Healthcare Illinois & Indiana helped make history at SEIU’s 2008 Convention in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Members overwhelmingly approved the groundbreaking Justice for All as the direction of our union for the next four years.

SEIU 2008 ConventionOver the course of the convention, SEIU delegates debated and voted to adopt a new program, Justice for All, to direct the work of our union for the next four years. Highlights of the Justice for All platform include:
  • Commitment to winning living wages, affordable healthcare and a voice on the job for all working women and men, and uniting record numbers of new members in our union to build a stronger voice for all working families.
  • Political action—from electing pro-worker candidates at all levels of office, to holding elected officials accountable to working families every day.
  • Increased focus on Member Action & Leadership—Discovering new ways to develop members’ unique talents and interests, and developing new roles for member leaders to participate at all levels in the work and direction of our union.

Back home, SEIU Healthcare Illinois & Indiana members are working hard to make Justice for All a reality. Uniting our strength into a single, more powerful voice is already making waves across the Midwest—as we unite more workers, raise standards in our industries, register voters in Indiana and hold state lawmakers accountable to working families.

What SEIU Healthcare Illinois & Indiana members say about Justice for All:

"We can’t just wait for someone to hand us Justice for All. We have to work to make it happen. We’re united, we are working hard, and we will win healthcare and economic justice for all."
    - Maria Valle, Nursing Homes

"Winning healthcare for thousands of Illinois child care providers in out first contract is only the beginning. Together in our union, we’ll keep fighting until every child and every family has quality, affordable healthcare."
    - Martina Casey, Child Care & Early Learning

"I’ve traveled around the country and helped to organize workers into our union. Every member should have the opportunity to see the excitement in the eyes of a worker who is given an opportunity to join. They recognize, as we all should, the power of our unity."
    - Anna Gibbons, Health Systems
